Battrey choice for 550SX - battery capacity utilization info in german post

Hello RV,

I was trying my best at google translating the post pasted below, but not sure if I understood your recommendations for how to be safe with usable capacity on the batteries, can you help us with an english version of this info here?

If I understood correctly:

1- One should asses the "usable capacity" of a certain battery at a certain point in time by discharging t to 3.7V and then charging it full and observing how many mAh went in to the battery.
2- Flying should use a maximum of 70% of that "usablel capacity" determined above.

Thanks for confirming and helping with this useful process on how to extend the life of your batteries!

Also, when storing the batteries, do you recommend besides storage charge, keeping it in the fridge if storing for a short or for a long time?

Danach brauchst DU ihn nicht mehr laden - der ist dann hin.

Bei der Kapazität beziehen sich die hersteller meist auf 3V/Zelle als 0%. Wer allerdings unter 3,3V mit einem Lader (Dauerentladung!!!) runtergeht - schädigt den Akku.

Da es nur um den Vergleich geht kann man z.B. den Akku alle 20 Zyklen auf 3,7V bringen (am Besten nach einem Flugtag) - und dann volladen um zu sehen was jetzt reingeht.

Somit bekommt man ein Gefühl wieviele mAh alle 20 Flüge fehlen.

1 - yes - but i do currently:

- get a new batt
- charge full
- discharge to 3.6 / cell
- write down discharged capacity

This value is not the lableed capacity - but a value which can be watched w/o damaging a battery ;-)
E.G. you may get 4200 on a 5000 mAh

- set the batt capacity to labeled capacity (e.g. 5000)
- set the warning to 70%
- fly 20-25 flights

After 20-25 cylces - do it again. You may get now less than in the first test, i think approx. 150 mAh.

Now dial in 5000-150=4850 as "full" capacity

Retry each 20-25 flights



Storage - i store them a little bit colder than a living room (15 deg) at the "empty" value of 30% remaining. They may age under storage too ...

Is it sufficient to have each cell voltage above 3,73-3,75V after your flights (let's say, let the batteries rest for 30 minutes after the flight and then measure it)?

I'm saying this because I don't have UI in all my helis and it resets on the Kosmik 200 as welll...

Mine (3 weeks and 5 flights old) here have average 3.78 1 hour after a flight with 30% of 4978 mAh (yep - App working) left ;-)
