Bottom Plate

Hi Guys,

I have started having some people asking about, and thinking that there is a tolerance issue with the bottom plate as it mounts to the frame, thinking that the engine mount is to big on the bottom because they see that if they tighten the bottom plate bolts into the engine mount first, then the front of the plate sits a few mm away from the front landing gear mount.

There is no tolerance issue with the engine mount of the frame, it is just a characteristic of how the bottom plate mounts to the engine mount.

Let me explain.

The frame sits on a 2 degree angle to keep the tail out of the ground and give the "mikado aesthetic look". So the bottom plate also is on a 2 degree angle. However, where the bottom plate meets the engine mount, that hole cannot be machined on a 2 degree angle without using a very expensive 5 axis mill. So the landing gear mounts, and bottom plate are on a 2 deg angle, but the bottom of the engine mount is milled at 0 deg. Then the bottom plate is designed to just flex a bit around this area. It is only noticeable if you tighten the bottom plate bolts going into the engine mount first before tightening the landing gear bolts. But when you tighten all 6 it works perfect and sits flush in between the bottom of the frame. Tested and proven.

So if you notice this issue, then don't worry. It's a non issue and is completely normal.
