New VBCE User Question(s)
May 19, 2023 09:06PM
Hey Guys,

Couple of questions..

1) I have a 5V 3.5 amp USB C power supply (17.5 watts). Will I receive the optimal 4.2v/cell charge using this power supply or is this too powerful?

2) Is there a suggested 15W AC power supply that delivers 3 amps?

3) What is the expected charge time at 15 watts from say 20% charge?

4) Are there alternate gimble springs available? Although I've adjusted spring tension to the best of my ability. I'm wanting a slightly softer spring.

Thanks
Raz

1 - yes you will, the internal charger will do the rest ;-)

2 - nope, just use anyone from you phone

3 - didn't measure it - so probably Edward or Uli can say something here

4 - nope - but a serach ove the web might help. I heard something about Graupner springs, might be worth some google ;-)

Hi Rainer,

Thanks. I'm not finding anything on the web about Graupner springs? Anything anyone may have to offer here in way of further information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ahh ... here:

But it was for harder springs ... not for softer ones.

Hi,

the internal charger can charge with up to 15 W, if the power supply can deliver it.
This can be 5 V x 3 A or 9 V x 1,66 A or anything both can agree upon.

Charging 80 % would mean 4,800 mAh, at 15 W charging power, this would take approx. 1:20 hours if the world was linear.
1.5 hours or slightly longer sounds more reasonable, because of the usual CC/CV charging pattern, and that fact that the last 10-20 % always take longer, on Li batteries.

Kind regards

Hi Eddie,

Do you mean I shouldn't be using a 17.5 watt power supply? I'm at 5v x 3.5a.

Appreciate the charge time approximation, thank you.

Thanks Rainer,

Yeah, looking for a softer spring I can add a bit of tension to. Wouldn't be nice to have the option of a softer spring.

Hi Raz,

both softer and harder have only been requested a couple of times, since 2014 when VBar Control was released.
This is why we keep recommending other sources so far.

Another thing that comes to my mind is, you could try and sand off the plastic spanner a couple of tenths, so you can use the same spring but with less tension.
You can't really make it unusable, because you can always adjust for higher tension, with the spring.

Kind regards

Thanks in advance

Hi,

almost all screws or bolts in this world turn clockwise to tighten.
So ... it's counterclockwise.

But ... give it a couple of turns (count turns if you want to just test, then go back to what it was) and watch the spring, and you will even see it winking smiley

Kind regards

Hi

The elevator and aileron now it's perfect

But I need more soft rudder gimbal yet..I'm afraid of goes to far the unscrew of rudder screw

How much can I turn the screw counterclockwise? Could it come off and cause a problem with the spring?

Hi,

please just try, incrementally. There is a point when the stick will no longer re-center properly, 'hang loose' around center.
That's what you wouldn't want, else you'd have drift all the time.
Then, there's still some way until the spring will become so loose that it might fall off the metal lever inside.
You can see when you move the stick, when looking from the back side.

It's no magic engineering, it's simple mechanics smiling smiley
