How to setup a 3D VCopter

Hello,

here are some quick tips how to setup a Neo with VCopter 3D mode.

First of all the important things:
- For 3D its necessary to have ESCs with a fast MCU (up to 50MHz for example DYS XM20AV2 with Silab MCU)
- 3D props are not really needed. We use DAL 6045 and just switch a pair (over X direction) upside down. Sounds strange but works great.
- ESCs must be pre-setup in BL Heli

BL Heli Pre-Setup important points:

- Motor Direction "Bi-Directional"
- PWM Frequenzy/damped "Damped Light"
- PPM Center Throttle "1.500ms"
- PPM Min Throttle "1.000ms"
- PPM Max Throttle "2.000ms"

VCopter Setup

- Simple Setup your VCopter over the wizard an connect ESCs correct.
- Finish

I Use:

Output Settings:
- ESC Controlrate 500Hz/2ms
- Pulsewidth Oneshot 125
- Pitchmix 103
- Idle 41 (Spool Up idle high as needed). The motors has to spin in the "normal" direction not in the "wrong"(Pitch under middle).

Loop Tuning:
Everything "on"

Filter Setup:
55HZ


Roll/Nick:
Expo 10
Gain 60
Agility 81
Integral 36
Direct 48
Prop 60
Diff 50
I-Limit 120

Yaw
Expo 30
Gain 60
Agility 50
Direct 60
Prop 60
Diff 50
I-Limit 120

My Setup:
- RCX 2206-2250KV Motors
- DYS XM20A V2 ESCs
- VBar Neo ()
- 3S 1600mAh Optipower
- DAL 6045 Props
- RacingRabbit Frame (developed by myself together with a friend)

Hi Pascal,

I think the main issue is the motor stop and reverse on mine. But your setup you make the motor moves all time even at center which very smart to fly a 3d quad from hunting or fighting back!

Thanks a lot for the setup that explains a few things. Also, I seen your fantastic article in the German heli mag. I still got a few clarifications questions:

- How the switch from normal mode flying into 3D mode? Do you need to have the stick above mid center?
- Is it possible to have Bank2 Normal Mode and Bank3 3D mode?
- Your settings above is for the 3D mode what needs to be change and adjusted when flying in the normal Mode?
- You mentioned ESC DYS any thoughts at the Little Bee 20A ESC (difficult to finds specs from the ESC)

Wenn die Regler auf Bi-Directional stehen musst du diesen Punkt bei den Reglern wieder auf "Normal" oder "Revers" stellen und zusätzlich im Neo von 3D auf Normal stellen. Mehr musst du nicht tun.

Nein da die Regler ja auf Bi-Directional stehen. Es gibt dazu 1-2 Ideen das in Zukunft möglich zu machen, aktuell geht es aber aus dem genannten Grund nicht.

Im Prinzip nichts dieses Setup fliege ich auch bei meinem FPV Racer, nur das die Regler nicht Bi-Directional laufen.

- You mentioned ESC DYS any thoughts at the Little Bee 20A ESC (difficult to finds specs from the ESC)

Little Bee 20A sollten genau so gehen. Wir haben in der Vergangenheit sehr gute Erfahrungen mit den DYS gemacht auch was die Revers-Zuverlässigkeit angeht. Aus dem Grund "empfehle" ich sie.

I think it is possible to turn to normal mode...

because Vbar need to change mode and have throttle curve on banking switch... Uli please add throttle curve in VCopter, Vplane and normal Neo also.

Its better to change the ESC setup because if you use a (half) throttle curve you have just the half resolution of the way - from 1500-2000ms not from 1000-2000ms as normal.

Just wondering what to get and how setup LED’s (Xmas Tree ) with the NEO?

Yes Uli and Pascal,

It does not matter we have half resolution as long we can use the same copter to do 3D and FPV Racing at the same time...
This really help a lot. Because right now to race, I have to use SP Racing Flight Controller and trust me... I want to use VCopter to race... because it feel better!

Right now I had to buy another radio just to race.. And if we have both mode... VCopter can easily win especially in Freestyle because we do inverted! Trust me!

I have a couple of 250 vortex quads, can they be converted to neo? Or would I be better off with a new build?

Sorry but i dont know the Vortex 250. Please just post on topic things in this thread here
You can open a new one and maybe a Vortex pilot answer your question.

I think you just need to plug in your 4 ESCs and BEC Voltage to use a Neo there.
