How many Amps do your servos take in common at the same time?

How many NEO's are involved?

Consider using 2 NEOS on a large Plane as Master/Slave - and feed the power in the connection to both NEOs ;-)

Hi,

Rainer's right: if you use one or two NEOs, 'just' make sure you have a powerful power input, and all is well.
Power distribution is like on a power strip, what goes in can go out, and there's enough copper on the pin header board so you shouldn't run into issues.

The receiver is living off the same power supply, and drives the servos just by signal. There's a common assumption/misunderstanding that a receiver 'drives' the servos, power-wise, but that is not true. Servos all have their own built-in ESC and software, and their own supportive electronics, which should (in a perfect world) also protect the connected electronics from bad effects like back voltages and such.
They 'just' need a stable and resilient power supply, like all the other components in the loop, and of course a signal so they know where to go.

So, w/o a power box
. for redundancy, connect two batteries parallel, no shenanigans necessary
. for receiver redundancy and diversity, interconnect two VBar NEO (e.g. Pro/VPlane+VBasic/Extender)
. for power, connect one or two powerful batteries, BECs are usually limited and—if overloaded—will sooner or later cave in, or switch off, for self-protection, or even fail. Take particular current Futaba servos, where they say, for the power-version, no BEC allowed, where the other one (with like half the power, spec-wise) are said to be OK for use with BECs
. to smoothen out the supply voltage, to buffer power surges as well as to protect from (back) voltage spikes, use suitable capacitors; this helps particularly with BECs—of course they must support it. For BECs, a buffer battery will also work miracles, or a combination of buffer battery and caps.

Of course you could—can—also use a power box or similar, distribute the power supply through it and feed it with the NEO's servo signals. Whatever works best for you.

All in all, it's not the size of the aircraft which draws the threshold line smiling smiley

Hello

I'm having the same question, is the Vbar NEO V2 able to handle my setup and how are we able to know if it is or not ?

I'm going to use 4x Savox SV-1270TG+ and 1x Savox SB-2290-SG on a 88" 3d plane.
With a YGE 185 Aureus ESC and using the YGE BEC. With a 2S lipo backup lipo with the YGE BattSwitch BEC - buffer circuit back up30 Amps.

Is the NEO V2 capabele of handeling this setup ?

Hi Joeri,

five servos, easily.

As being said, the bottleneck is the actual power supply (battery, connectors and wire gauge), so if you connect with two or three servo wires, or even make up a harness with two batteries parallel, nothing worry. Same with the usual BEC layout, master and slave wire.

With VBar Control, I'd however opt for the Power Backup solution, because you wouldn't need an extra battery at all, and because you have telemetry control to set it up and to get warnings. For a plane as big as yours certainly the 110 F type (the black one) so you have enough reserve for a traffic pattern even if the ESC/BEC would somehow disconnect or fail.
On the other hand, you can probably land a 3D plane right where it is, anywhere, without much time to prepare smiling smiley

For extra antenna diversity and redundancy, you might want to consider an Extender (VBasic with Extender firmware).

Thanks for the reply, I'm planning to use a 2s 1000Mah with the YGE BattSwitch.

No need to recharge the lipo just once a season and the weight is just 66g with the PCB around 68g I think.
So not much more weight.
I think I can fly longer when the bec fails with a 1000mah lipo then with just the backup.


About the antenna I ordered the 250mm long ones for my Vbar. Is't that more then enough for range?
I'm planning to build and insane fast HJK Elysium soon to, do I need 2 Vbar's for that to ? Because that would be hard to fit.

Hi Joeri,

it's a matter of choice.

A buffer battery, at best without a switch in between (YGE's solution seems to be sound, though, compared to other (electronic) switches around) is best, or on par with an intelligent power backup solution in my opinion.
It's just that with our Power Backup, you can simply forget that you have it smiling smiley

Buffer battery is what our team pilots did all the time, for years.

Antenna length doesn't really affect range. In fact, different ones than the original ones can technically even be a bit worse, because tuning a radio circuit for optimum efficiency is not the simplest of tasks, it's not one-fits-all.
Then, the antenna positioning and layout of the electronics, as well as that the antenna tips should not flap but stand out rather rigidly, makes more of a difference. The latter because if the orientation of the antenna changes constantly (flapping), it's also somewhat between slightly to much more worse for the radio link.

In the near future, there will be a pure receiver satellite for VBar EVO VLink (not NEO), which is basically an Extender but without extra servo ports.
That would be an extra piece of safety for all applications.
Insane fast also means insanely fast insanely far away our way up high smiling smiley so I guess it's not a fault to think about such an addition smiling smiley

All that being said, under 'normal circumstances' (and what are those again smiling smiley), you don't have to worry about it.

Hello Eddie

I'm thinking to buy an Power Backup Max for my 3D plane, and use the Batswitch from YGE in my Elysium with a small lipo. Since I need an open telemetry port for that Batswitch and on my Elysium I already don't have enough for the sensors I need so there is not an option to install a Powerbackup and use it to it's full potensional.

I need motor temp, ESC temp (YGE 160 and 200 FAI so no telemetry) and a current sensor from Mikado, so I need 3 ports already. And that's not an option with the limit of just 2 ports.

The 250mm antenna that I installed is original Mikado. I just installed those to be sure I'm abale to mount them outside the airframe. Not for more range smiling smiley

So no extra antennas needed in my case (3d plane)

For the Elysium this maybe is a different story? Full carbon fast plane can go further in a few seconds then you think.

Hi,

in case you didn't notice yet, our telemetry ports can be daisy-chained.
All items but current sensor or ESC with telemetry usually have two ports, so you can connect one to the VBar and the next to the previous one and so on winking smiley

On the other hand, the VBar as it is only supports one temperature sensor at a time, so an ESC with telemetry would be practically mandatory, if you wanted both ESC and motor. With a sensor hub (another VBar with sensor hub firmware), you could have many more measuring inputs, though.

For the Elysium, that's what I thought.

Also consider that at such insane speeds, with the airflow, antennas just sticking out their wires will have their ears set back, flat on the fuselage, if you don't actually support them with (non conducting) tubes for example.
