I've been saying that for a long time ... if officials knew that VBasic and/or a certain firmware number do not have Gyros enabled (and we can vouch for that), you would only have to show the Model Status Screen, with the model bound, upon scrutinizing.
The ATC
or judges could check directly before or after a competition flight, with a glance at the display, to confirm the rules are adhered to.
That way, you could even hardly update right before a flight and downgrade right thereafter, with a Touch and a personal hotspot.
If the display doesn't say VBasic if checked at any time during the event, DQ.
There's always room for cheating, I mean, look at motor sports, but if the officials 'knew their sh*t'
there should be nothing against it.
