Logo 200 ESC wont update

I've bought the OMP BT module so I can update my ESC in the Logo 200 V8 I have. Only the sunny sky app keeps throwing up an ESC connect fail message and will not connect. I've verified the connections from the module to the ESC telemetry wires and the connection is all good.

When I look on my vControl I get these versions.

So my ESC isn't at the 1.4 the guide suggests it should be, is that why the app wont connect?

Hi,

first, OMP never managed to report the correct firmware version, it always shows 1.2 ... probably hard-coded in the (every ...) firmware somewhere, not reading the actual firmware version.

Then, I only got this message when I accidentally swapped the yellow and white wires (TXD/RXD, transmit-receive data).
The BT module, when powered up, will connect to the App just fine even then, by the way.

Otherwise, the Sunnysky App connects properly here (might require a few clicks not just one, on the BT device name), shows the actual firmware version, and updates properly as described here.

When I update 200s, that's what I do, connect the telemetry wires to the adapter, power up the adapter directly from the VBar, and I actually do both parallel, also connect USB and update the VBar while the ESC is updating, then load the setup, re-do the trims, job done.

What mobile device are you using?
Because when I started, I heard the Sunnysky App only works properly on iOS, not on Android ...

Should the wires be yellow to yellow and white to white between the BT adapter and the telemetry wires? If so I had those the right way round. I'm powering the BT adapter from a PSU rather than the vbar as I don't have the right connector to make up a cable.

I've tried my iPhone, and my MacBook to run the app. It connects to the OMP BT module ok, but the module doesn't seem to have a connection to the ESC.

yes, color to color is correct. A bit hard to see in our tutorial, but if you follow the wires closely, it's quite clear.
And if reversed nothing bad will happen, it will just not work.
I even accidentally reversed power to the BT module once, and it didn't take damage, guess I was lucky :-)

Silly questions maybe, but do you have the correct BT module OMPHOBBY OSHM4118?
And ... do you power up the heli, too?

Yes its the right module ( just double checked the packet )

Yes plugging the battery into the heli to power up. It's very odd it wont connect

Are there other 200 V8 around where you could try if your module connects there, or other guys who also own the module and connect to yours?

I've updated some 200+ helis myself since the corresponding firmware was released, and there was not one dud, whenever it didn't work, it was my fault. Had even a broken wire on my adapter-harness (the one in the tutorial) already—these tiny connectors and flimsy bell wires are simply not made for hundreds of mating operations, even when you're careful ...

I don't know anyone else with a L200 V8 sadly. I'll ask around about the module though.

when it all began, I was in contact with Midland, and Trevor there said he had a module coming (in Mai already), and would be happy to sort out UK customers. It's not around the corner for you, but certainly closer and less costly and time-consuming to ship, than to Germany and back, with customs and all.

In case you can't get it to work, that is.

And if it was a bad ESC (again, had none so far, but there's always a first time ...), they could also replace it for you, would just have to make sure they have a bench stock.
On the other hand, if you get an rpm signal and telemetry, the wires from the ESC should technically be OK.

Hi,

For me, the update ONLY worked when powering the BT module via the receiver (AUX).
It didn't work with 4 NiMH cells!
In the end, I soldered a cable myself, and it worked without any problems.

Good info Martin, that might be the issue. Could be a ground issue when run off a PSU. Will need to see if I can dig out some connectors.

Success! Martin was 100% spot on, the BT module needs to be powered from the FBL aux port. I suspect it's a grounding issue if you power it from anything else. 1.9 is now installed.

Eddi it might be worth updating the instructions to remove the bits about using the external power supply.

makes sense, common ground, I'll update it.

I updated ESCs some time ago, which were not yet mounted to a model, so no VBar.
But I guess I still gleaned power from the ESC, and there you have it.
