Hello.. I just upgraded my 4.0 to 5.0... I have a Raptor 50 w/elect conversion..

Please see the attached.. I have my tail boom grounded to the motor.. the frame is all plastic.. I also get numerous checksum errors..

Thanks

Hi.

First, don't nap a thread winking smiley

Second: all those Sensor Data Checksum Errors don't bother you?
Do you have the Sensor firmly connected?
Do you have the transmitter calibrated to VBar?
What kind of power supply a are you using? There are low voltage warnings, too ...
Did this particular VBar have any mishaps in the past?

Cheers

Hi,

First.. sorry.. smiling smiley
2nd.. Yes.. I don't now what they are from.. I have my boom grounded to the
motor mount.
I have the sensor connector securely mounted with a dab of "Goop" holding it
in. Per MrMel's videos.. It can't come out or move..
This is my 2nd VBar install.. my Tx is calibrated... dead on..
I have a 10cell lipo with a UBEC to the Rx..
This is a brand new VBar..

Don't know what to do from here???

Thanks

maybe a case for service, but I'd like to wait until RV chimes in, maybe he has other options.

Are these errors on the bench too?

Or are they only in flight?

Hello Rainer,

I don't know.. I will do some extensive bench testing today and let you know..
I'll test with the UBEC and giving the Rx it's own power supply.. I'll post later..

OK.. here's what I've done.. I re-did the ground on my tail boom, I replaced the HD extension cable between the unit and the sensor, rerouted that cable away from the CC ICE80 esc, "Gooped" the connector to the vbar unit.....

Bench tested per the attached screen shots as MrMel did in his video on the new analyzer..

What do you think? It would appear that some of the items in the previous screen shots have been fixed?????

Thanks

Aha, so you have an extension cable to the sensor cable?

Seems you had a faulty connection or the ESC disturbed the signal.

Hello Rainer,

I'm at a total lose.. I have no idea what to do next... Above is my test on the bench and here is the log of today's flights.. First was 8 mins and the second 5 mins..

Also.. should my tail Optimizer flight show 100 on the left side?

Your thoughts please..

Thanks

The signal loss and checksum erros ... do they only happen in flight? Or also on the bench when the motor runs?

My 1st thing on this heli would be to cleanup the battery/Esc hookup.

Think of alll the voltage drop with 10 (never saw so much in one heli) connectors and at least about 2m of cable.

I would mount both batteries facing toward with the cables, one short lead from batt to batt (- to +) with one connector and the other 2 Batt outputs to the ESC, one short lead and the other as long as needed but not more.

Also i won't use the deans plugs, i would use 5...6mm round standard plugs. The deans look nice but have bad contacts.

Why am i referring to this ... we have some really strange entries in the event log. Maybe we have a magnetic field with this "very speciel" hookup that disturbs the electronic.

Not really sure what your asking here... Hope this picture helps..

BTW I do not have the speed controller going through the vbar... Just goes to the Rx ch3

Re: RC Input of Channel X Out of Range errors

Well, I mean the cable and connector next to the main shaft (or so it looks), could have been a sensor of sorts.
I'm not familiar with those Rappi conversions, so I guess it's just the way it is.

But RV has a point: you're lifting some wires there big-time, and all those connectors.

High voltage/high current wires should be as short as possible, and away from
low voltage wires and other electronics, especially since you seem to be using
MHz rc equipment. And then parallel to the extended sensor wires ... I'd say
you should try and re-wire, too.

Cheers

Oh.. that wire is the grounding wire going back to the tail boom..

I'm going to do some rewiring and replace connectors.. But........ This setup ran fine
with 4.0 and before that with a flybar..

Does the possibility exist that this may be a bad unit/sensor?

Its the same chance as a bad servo, bad ESC, bad hookup, bad RX, bad BEC, bad TX ... so we have to sort it out step by step.

Re: RC Input of Channel X Out of Range errors

Well, if the update to v5 was the only change, it would be coincidence that something else went bad ... as RV says, could be everything.

Before v5 there was no way to monitor what happens on the heli, now you might just see what was there all the time.

So ... lets sort this out step by step.

Best start would be a cross check with another, similar VBar or just the sensor (from a buddy, maybe)?

Best regards

Hi Eddi and Rainer..

I'm going to rewire everything to the other side of the heli, away from the ESC and shorten the
battery cable on the DC (Battery) side of the ESC.. MrMel told me to do that a while ago..

I'll report back after my next test flight..

Thanks

Here you go Gents.. smiling smiley

I rewired the vbar to the other side of the fuselage away from the ESC and DC power side of it, I shorten the cable on the DC side of the ESC, I got rid of a number of the battery connectors.. (Still have the Deans on them cause none of the LHS in my area had any 4 or 5mm bullet connectors, have to order them...) Moved the tail boom grounding wire to the other side of the fuselage away from the vbar wiring..

Still have the same errors.. Please advise..

Thanks
Grant

Has the CC a integrated BEC?

Move the red lead out of the CC ESC connector and unplug your UBEC also. Then try with a externel simple 4.8V RX 4cell NiMh battery once.

The next step would be ... i don't trust in MhZ equipment any more. Maybe the electrics disturb here. Can you borrow a Ghz TX/RX to cross-check?

Hi Rainer,

No the CC ICE80 does not have a BEC... I'm using a UBEC..
I've made the suggestions you've made here and plan on a test flight tomorrow or Monday.
I've also changed out my sensor mounting and did some bench testing.. See the attached
for elimination of some vibs. smiling smiley

Got to check out the borrowing of someone elses Ghz Tx/Rx..

Thanks
