Vbar control Evo USB-C 12v charge

Hi,

I am currently charge the Vbar Control Evo with provided usb A to C cable and 5V usb charger.
Is this possible to charge the device with ubc-c cable connect to 12v power supply or 3s-4s lipo?
For the Vbar Control Touch, I am using a 5.5mm plug and 12-16V power supply(3-4s lipo), it works fine.

Thank you

OK, I understand.
So far, all yhou showed us looks normal.
The only LED you need to know is the one below the display, which flashes red while connected to a power supply, to indicate the transmitter is charging.

Hi,

ah, OK, this is the operating LED inside VBar Control EVO. In touch, it's in a different location, and red.

The radio module is on the other side of the main board, you only see the four holding clips, in your photo.

Maybe a heretic question, but I can't hold back :D do you actually use your transmitter to fly helicopters, or just to theorize?
;) ;) ;)
Best,

Hi,

oh my ... I have aborted the downloads, they were not done, even now.

Flashing ... apples and oranges. There's an LED right below the display, in the middle of the transmitter.
This is the charging LED.

Then, there's an operating LED inside (lights up solid red when the transmitter is running), this is possibly visible, or more likely not, depending on a) which battery you have and b) if you have transparent case or not ;-)

Then, there's the radio module inside, which has LEDs like the receiver satellite, which flash red and green during rx/tx operation.

All normal ...

.122 is current as of now.

Kind regards

Hi,

yes, the Apple charger is fine. The transmitter and the charger negotiate what's best.
Technically, you'd get 5 V * 3 A=15 W or 9 V * (1.666 A)= 15 W where the transmitter is the limiting factor, it will never draw more than 15 W in total.
Same as if you were using the original a 12 V * 1.5 A wall charger (VBar Control Classic, Touch), that's 18 W max. but the transmitter would draw only 15 W. Some overrating in A is never a mistake, by the way, this way, the charger is not running at full load.

The LED flashing is normal.

About the update, if another update run makes no difference (WiFi or USB ), try the following:

. power down your transmitter (long tap, Full OFF)
. _while holding_ the left stick to the lower right corner, power on again (display will remain blank)
. connect to computer
. run VBar Control Manager
. after the update, if, the transmitter will reboot automatically, or it might be necessary to power cycle it the hard way (hold power button for 15 + seconds until it disconnects from computer, then power on again

While writing this, I'm trying to download the videos, but it's oh-so-slow, like on a 2,400 Baud modem ... maybe the download finishes sometimes later today.

Kind regards

Hi,

well, I have a power bank at home which came with a dual PD charger (USB A to Micro USB, can be charged with two wires parallel).

This one has one standard USB port, and one USB PD port, which iirc can output up to 12 V.
Can't be sure what the transmitter and the charger negotiate, but it charges rather quickly.

In any case, 15 W's the limit, no matter how you calculate, so 5 V/3 A or 12 V/1.25 A or something in between, 5/2.1 would mean 'only' 10.5 but 'better than nothing' :)

I'm actually not sure what the Apple 20 W has printed on it's type label, but I could check when back at home.

Best,

Hi,

I wouldn't recommend it, either. More precise, I wouldn't recommend using other than USB compatible chargers.

Reason, there was more than one customer who tried some power supply which had a USB C-type connector (non-removable, by the way), and they damaged the main board.
For one of those power supplies we found out that it came with a cheapo tablet computer, and it's not genuine USB C, but the manufacturer of the tablet seems to have opted for the USB C-type/form factor connector.

No negotiation of the power rating, or a different pin layout, and 'pffffff' ... white smoke.

When looking for a mobile fast-charging solution, look for a PD compatible power bank.

Kind regards

On USB-C the used Voltage is negoiated by some special signalling on 2 Pins of the Connector. This allows some capable chargers to switch to 12V. The Port is capable of handling this. Usually this is not happening, since on 5V the 15W power demand (5V/3A) of the VBars Charger is sufficient.
Using a plain cable is dangerous, since the Protocol does not run here. No idea if this may work. At this point i do not recommend trying this.
