VBar Software and Windows 11 (as of 06-2026)

Recently, Windows 11 apparently no longer accepts older/previously signed USB drivers. In our case, this affects the driver for USB mode, which is used to configure the VBar on a PC.
This does not affect access via VBar Control Manager (Boot plug for VBar NEO, power-on sequence for VBar EVO).
Currently, there seems to be no practical (or permanent) workaround for this.

We have prepared something that allows you to configure VBar EVO, VBar NEO, and possibly even older VBar models on a Windows PC:

What is needed?

  • Oracle VirtualBox (free software for operating system virtualization)
  • A so-called Appliance (a prepared virtual machine), which includes VBar Control Manager, VBar Software 6.x (for VBar NEO) and 7.x (for VBar EVO), as well as an older but functional browser for accessing vstabi.info

How does it work?

  • Download and install Oracle VirtualBox on the PC (also works on an older Intel-based Mac)
  • Download the appliance
  • Launch VirtualBox and import the appliance via File → Import Appliance ...
  • Confirm the subsequent prompts
  • In VirtualBox, start the virtual machine VBar Setup Tools (double-click)

And now?

  • ... proceed as usual ...
  • Download the key file within the virtual machine from My Devices and move it to the program folder c:\program files (x86)\VBarControl
  • Connect the VBar to the computer and power it on (VBar NEO without boot plug, VBar EVO: first power supply, then USB)
  • ... but ...
  • Click the USB icon in the lower status bar of VirtualBox, select VBar if it is not automatically recognized
  • Launch the 6.x or 7.x configuration software

Anything else?

  • You can also download the configuration software for older VBars (V4, V5, see archive) from vstabi.info, install it, and configure older VBars as usual; language can also be switched there. A new driver installation is not necessary, as the installed driver works universally for all USB VBars

Security concerns?

  • If you only visit vstabi.info or shop.mikado-heli.de in the browser inside the virtual machine, there is no significant risk.
  • You can optionally receive emails via webmail there.
  • Naturally, do not click suspicious emails, fancy pictures, cat videos, or browse social media within the virtual machine ... it is solely for VBar.
  • In the virtual machine settings (yellow gear “Modify”, machine must be powered off) you can enable a shared clipboard to copy download links from your host email program to the browser in the virtual machine, or copy saved passwords, etc.
  • You can also define a shared folder, i.e., an exchange directory, to transfer data (key file, setups, logs, ...) between host and guest systems.
  • If anything happens (malware, viruses), you can simply delete the virtual machine and re-import it. Everything that happens inside is essentially quarantined, trapped in this sandbox.
