VControl with VBar Silverline..beginner questions

I am about to purchase a Goblin 770 that comes with a VBar Silverline.
I purchased in November a VControl TX that came with a RX Satellite.

Background:
Radio used for all my existing helies: JR DSX9 using Spectrum DSM2
My FBL experience is using Skookum Robotics. A SK360 is on a Converted TRex 450, a SK720 Blue is on a Xtreme 50 (Nitro).
Mutliple 60, 80, 90 Nitro helies all flybar

A Kasama Srimok N90 is awaiting an FBL unit to be finished in the near future.

So here are my questions:

1) Can I use the VBar RX Satellite with the Silverline?
2) Can I configure the Silverline via my VControl?
3) Can I use the Mikado Battery condition Telemetry using the RX Satellite or is this only an option with the NEO?

Can you point me towards any relevant tutorials?

For the Kasama Srimok 90 (Nitro), will I be better of to use the Neo on it..or should I swap the Silverline to the Srimok and then use the NEO on the Goblin when the time comes to finish the Kasama Heli?

I know I am asking a lot, but 45years of model aeroplane flying and the last 30 years in helies, taught me that you never know as much as you think.
I have just come back into the hobby after a 5~6years break....my son dragged me back into it (it didn't take much but :-) ).

short version from me...

Yes to all your questions.

You have to install the V6 firmware on the Silverline, after that you're able to bind via satellite and
setup with VBC.

Hmmm which stabi on which Heli....
I would place the Neo on the Goblin and the Silverline on the Srimok.

The Neo has the newer sensors in it, so the feeling is a little bit better.

But the Neo will also work with nitros.

to add:

. go to www.vstabi.info/devices, and add the Option V6 Pro to your VBar Silverline there, then go File/Online Update in the 5.3 PC software to load it onto the unit. After that, the software will no longer 'talk' to the VBar, disconnect USB, connect the receiver sat, bind, and you are good to go to set up using the radio. I guess your son can help in case you are struggling with the computer things.

. regarding telemetry, afaik the temperature sensor will not work with the silverline, but the rpm sensor, U/I sensor and battery ID (for electrics) will.

My absolute apologies for not getting back to you guys, as I expected email notification on any replies...I didn't get any.
Thanks to both of you and Eddie....Computers are not a problem, I am a Comms Tech working on all kinds of Networking and RF equipment for a large company. Computers are a large part of my working life. The problem is more towards learning a whole new language as VBar uses with their FBL systems. So I will be an absolute raw beginner when it comes to VBar and will take up your offers for help once the heli arrives, which should be a week or two.

So straight of another question before it arrives: As the Silverline is registered with the previous owner, does he need to somehow sign it over???

Hi Alfred,

only if you want to update it (get a license enabled, free of charge), or if you want to create a service request to your name.

The device will work no matter to whom it's registered.

Simplest thing would be that the previous owner goes to the registration form at www.vstabi.info/devices and moves the device to your MikadoID (E-Mail-Address).

You can do that, too, you would need his MikadoID, then, if you don't have it you can proceed with the next step and upload some proof of the serial no.

So two questions straight off.....where do I plug in the Satellite receiver on the Silverline main unit that came with the VControl TX?

And...where can I download version 5.3 Software, so that I can find the serial number...have it registered in my name and upgrade it to Version 6 for the VControl TX????
The only download part I found asked straight of for $30,- Euro.

Not related but all my mail gets directed to the "Junk" folder and I had the same problem while waiting for confirmation.

Should there be anything I can do to stop mail from Mikado going there.

The Goblin is being delayed as the RJX50 is giving me a hard time to get going again. At the moment I have got the YS50 engine in pieces on the table...blocked passages, stuck diaphragm and a stuck piston ring. It never rains but pours LOL.

Anyway, in the meantime parts have arrived for the goblin.: 2 quick change battery trays, Mikado Current/Voltage Sensor, Mikado Battery ID system and a bag of spare ID Tags, Mikado Switch covers for the VControl TX and the Castle Programming kit for the Ice 160 ESC.
I am just waiting for the Hobbywing RPM Phase sensor as the Ice doesn't have the RPM pickup yet.

So next post will be when I am actually setting it up and I am expecting to be back here with more questions and on topic.

A couple of quick questions:
Do I need to provide external power to the VBar Silverline main unit or is the USB power good enough?
Does the sensor have to be connected as well?
This is so that it will connect to the 5.3 Windows Software.

they might appear to be silly questions but the video isn't that clear about it and my SK540/SK720 will power up from the USB port only.

Hi,

USB provides only power to the USB chip, which is enough so it gets detected and you can install the driver.
But to power the VBar (and connected peripherals like sensor, servos etc.), USB would never-ever be sufficient so yes, you need a receiver power supply to set up.

You could probably run sensor and processor from USB only, to make changes without feedback on the model or the possibility to check any servo outputs, but the VBar isn't designed that way. We also only initialize fully if e.g. a receiver is detected.

The sensor is checked during power-on-self-test at each power-up, so yes, it needs to be connected, else the VBar wouldn't initialize.

Hi again,

if you have e.g. VSim and the USB adapter wire at hand (power supply only) you can use it for that purpose.

Just do not connect anything else to the VBar but maybe the sensor, servos for example would overload the max. 500 mA a standard USB port can provide, and it would either just not work or at worst, damage the host.

You can even read the serial number without the sensor, Info/Event Log works anyway even if the blue progress bar sticks because no sensor is connected, and File/Online Update will also show the serial no., a screenshot from that would also do.

In case you can either smell or see or hear electricity, something went wrong so that's something you want to avoid ^^

OK...this isn't working.
OS: Windows 10
Voltage provided to Controller Silverline: 5.3Vdc
Sensor plugged into Controller, Controller powered up and Device manager recognizes it and installs Device Driver...all good until here.
Vstabi Software 5.3.4 will simply not connect to unit. Sensor slowly changes colour from blue to green to red and just keeps going through those colours.
Device Manager shows that the Controller is connected and properly recognized.
Run Software in Administrator Mode...no change.
So where from here???

maybe it has 6.0 installed, which wouldn't connect to the computer, only to VBar Control (using an RX Satellite).

No, the previous owner had Spectrum Satellites installed.
Already tried recovery but it won't work either and just times out.
I tried to update the driver and pointed it towards your driver location on: c:/......Program Flies(x86)/VStabi_53/driver/VStabiUSBDriver/x86
But it keeps telling me that it did not find a suitable driver.

just point it to ..\drivers, not the subdirectories. Make sure "Include subdirectories" is checked (wording could be different), and Windows will find the appropriate driver.

Right...my u beaut expensive 17inch Laptop with Windows 10 does not like your driver
So I installed the software on my cheap little Acer Tablet that runs Windows XP...manually installed the driver and ..viola...up she comes connected.
But nothing is ever easy...LOL
So it shows USB and connected as Green, but does not show "Ready" and under info there is no 2nd part showing to download the "Log" file, which I apparently need as proof of ownership.

Recovery, honestly not sure. If USB goes green (and stays green), but it doesn't connect, it could be that there is either a 6.0 on it (which wouldn't connect) or that the unit is in an undefined state (e.g. an aborted update in the past), so I would try recovery.

Please also make sure that there is only USB connected, not USB and e.g. a bluetooth module, football (control panel) or RX Sat at the same time.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I can see now the misunderstanding.
So it shows "USB" as Green..AND...."Connected" as green. I can see the serial number now and it shows me the min/max Voltage.
But it does not show "Ready" next to the green Connected window.
There is also no option of downloading the "Log" file.

Sensor is hooked up to the Controller, + Battery + USB to Laptop.
Nothing else is connected yet.
From all looks and purposes there is no apparent config in the unit and the Main VStabi Software shows the next step to be "SETUP".
