Hello,

I just want to know when it will be possible again to upgrade to 4.0 for us having the old silver sensor unit with v3.6. I have been told for a couple of weeks that it will be available any day now. Is there a target date?

Lost in PID Tail (5 replies)

Hello,

I try to fine tune my tail/gyro and have some confusion.
A the V3 time, there was a good explanation about PID routine for Gyro tail.
Now, in the "old" V4 time, I can read differents things:
- on PC screen, there is "Acceleration" (??), "P gain", "I gain", "I decay" (??)
- on Control Panel, there is "Proportional", "Integral", "Differential" (??),"Acceleration" (??), "Discharge"...

Well, what is the Control Panel setting "Differential" (the D from PID?) and where it is on PC screen? or is the "Acceleration" the D from PID????
I assume "Discharge" on CP is same as "I Decay" from PC (or "D" from PID :-)???????
In future, it will be good to keep same words for same things on all devices/soft...

By advance, many thanks for your lightnings.
Kinds regards, Fred

PS at this time, I try to follow the website instructions for have V4 on Win7/64, but it dont work...(cant find good driver :-)

hi i have a beam e4 with a full size v bar on,i have done about 20 very good flights with it so far all good no problems, today i was out flying on my 3rd battery after 2 very good flights about 2 minutes into the flight the heli flipped about 90 degrees forword then back to level on its own,it did this a few times then was ok again.i landed and when on the ground the rear cyclic servo was moving up and down about 5mm all on its own so i dissconected and reconnected the battery to reset it i took off and hovered a few feet off the ground it did it again straight away and crashed.back at home i checked it again and the rear servo now does nothing at all i swopped the servo channels over to check the servo and that is ok,i have no signal at all from channel 1 how do i get this fixed as it is only a few months old and will it be the unit or the gyro that is faulty?

Un-flyable V Barred Trex 700 (16 replies)

I have for months been trying to get my TRex700 V4 to fly as stable as it did when it was first set up.

It has now been un flyable for weeks.

I have already posted on the forum some time back regarding the unstability and was recommended to try Zeal tape instead of regular tape as vibration was thought to be the cause.

I did not really get it to work very well and now it is worst than ever.

Basically to start with on spool up without the helicopter actually lifting off the the tail is very very twitchy.

If you are brave enough to try a lift off you are then seriously fighting to keep the helicopter in one place - not stable at all.

The T Rex has for a long time been perfect - perfect stable hover and great to fly.

So I have been changing things out to try to eliminate any possible vibration issues.

All bearings have been checked and several have been replaced including all those in the clutch stack and all tail bearings.

My last attempt this week was to strip the YS91 SR and replace the main and front bearing and the crank shaft.Only the rear bearing showed any sign of wear.

I have just come back from the field this afternoon and as the thread says the heli is still totally unflyable.I have even reverted back to the ordinary gyro pads this afternoon but with no effect.

Is it possible that I have developed a problem with the sensor?

How can I get it tested to rule it out it?

Other than that I am running out of ideas and am seriously in need of help if possible.

I am running v4 and want to upgrade.
I can only find the v5 express software but I think I need the v5 Pro, is this correct.

Also, in the setup wizard it says to disconnect all servos before sarting. Is this necessary if just upgrading?

My helis are flying so well on v4 that I am worried that I might mess up the upgrade. Is it just a case of following the instructions in the wizard and video to get a perfectly flying v5 heli?

Thanks

Was doing beginner hovering around and all was well. On the third battery, the helo began to act strange and was a little unstable. When I set it down, the swashplate servo (the one located on the backside with the vertical guide) was slowly moving up and down over a 1/4 inch range or so. Reset power and unit would not give the the two "bumps" after battery reconnect (tried 3 times). Next hoover attempt was immediately spastic so I quit. Next day, was told by friend to try to rebind, but it would not execute. Checked site and decided to buy version 5.0 software hoping it would help, but install of firmware to mini V would not work. During last attempt to upload 5.0 firmware, the entire unit would no longer power from either the ESC or an external NIMH battery. It appears dead.

Had I had some crash, I would at least have something to blame it on.

Trex 500, mini V-Bar (not blue one), Spektrum 12x with 2 satellites(no receiver battery or additional receiver), Futaba S9257 tail servo, 3300 35c Batt, Lite Ice 75 amp ESC, Scorpion 1600kw

Unit bought from ReadyHeli in December 2009 but really didn't start using until March. Up to now, it was awesome.
What do I do now???

I have a mini v bar 4.0 in a T-Rex 500 with 3517's on cyclic 9257 on tail and a stock align esc with JR satellites.
I set up the heli and I flew it 5 or 6 times in my back yard with auto trim on and optimization on.
The first two were just hover flights the next 3 or 4 were just mild forward flight. My back yard is long but narrow. I took it to the field and the first flight was just sport flying it flew great.
Now on the next flight I had to plug and unplug the battery twice to get it to initialize.
Then I noticed the swash was tilted to the left a lot. So I quit flying it. Got it home set it up again and took it in the back yard when I plugged it in the swash tilted to the left again. I went back and set it up again. The next flight was fine. Got an other battery took off and had to hold right rudder landed reinitialized and it was fine but I don't trust it what if it goes out of wack in flight that could be expensive. I don't need to rebuild an other heli because I threw a tail grip on my 700 in the morning and that wasn't pretty. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
We have 3 machines, l10 and 2 x 600 Se's that shows the exact same symptoms during pyros in fair wind in that the tail will slingshot,( i.e hessitate then come around quickly.) All settings are stock and blade pitch is correct (i.e not close to stalling ) . in still conditions it's fine though. I know it's not mechanical as i have vast experience setting up vbar machines
Problems occur in the "nose left input" neither my henseleit TDR or l600 show this endency in same conditions. When i do piro 8's the slingshot makes it unflyable.
I'm running 600 tail settings on SE, 105 carbons, jive 120hv pyro 700-45, should i increase or decrease gain or perhaps some other parameter.
Will the new v5 have different tail behaviour or same as v4?
Thanks

First I would like to thank RV for his assistance in ensuring that my first install of a v-bar went without any serious issues.
From the 1st fly it was acceptable and is now pretty good flying around.

My problem is with hovering and auto trim
In the hover, hands off the heli goes backwards and to the left fairly quickly.

I have tried various sensor pads but none improve it. Although I do not seem to have vibration problems. Auto trim appears to make no difference.
I have set the swash with a proper levelling tool so I believe this is ok but I am going to check it again.

My TX has been calibrated ok and I assume that i cannot use tx trims to correct this.
The gyros all appear to work opposite to the tilting of the heli in preflight checks. i.e heli forwards = swash backwards and same with aileron.

My heli is a Vibe 50 with a VR head.
Radio is JR DSX9 with a SR9000 receiver
V-Bar V4 set up 140 degrees as RV suggested.

Can anyone tell me what I might have done wrong?

Hi all,

I've had the vbar 4.0 setup in a 700E for a few months now and have been loving it.

Quick question, I recently put wire loom on all my servo wires and did a quick bench test and the tail is acting up.

The TR servo won't respond to a rudder input. However it will respond to a collective input via pre comp??? Otherwise it just stays centered?

I've ensured that the lead is plugged into the "tail servo" slot on the vbar and that it is in the correct orientation (black wire towards the label). I've also verified in my tx (dx7) through the monitor screen that my tx is transmitting a rudder input. And finally I have hooked the vbar up to the comp and verified that it responds to an input in the software.

Does anyone have any ideas on this one?

I've also tried re-binding the heli as well as a different tail servo with no change in the result.

After noticing a screeching bearing on my Trex500, I went through a basic rebuild of the front tail gearbox area (where you normally mount the vbar sensor). The heli is using a standard vbar with the separate sensor...

Once complete, I powered up the heli for a flight check and completed my pre-flight check. This includes checking the vbar and the that the sensors are reacting correctly. This is when I noticed the problem.

When the heli was tilited in elevator and yaw, the sensor worked correctly and tried to compensate for the movement. In aileron moves though, there was no reaction. This was confirmed in the Vstabi software. The integrator bar would not show any movement.

I tried a sensor from another model and all worked correctly. I then tried the faulty sensor on another model and had the same issue with aileron - no movement/compensation. So it is definitely a faulty aileron sensor....

Now this heli/sensor has not been crashed. Has flown perfectly for over 12 months. I just lucky the sensor failure was detected on the bench and not in the air.

Can these sensor units be repaired?? I noticed that I can no longer order replacement sensors - I need to buy a whole new vbar kit. :-(

If it can be repaired - who do I contact??

I just hope none of my other sensors fail in flight.....

Cheers

With the new blue mini vbar, in the setup wizard under the collective tab, using the stock 14mm servo center to ball distance.. Under the collective tab, I can only get 11 degrees of pitch using 120 on the slider and only 6 degrees under the cyclic tab using 120 on the slider.. Would you recommend changing to the 16 mm hole to improve the geometry with the mini Vbar 5 ?

I have some trouble with a vbar 4.0 unit with separate sensor, the black version.

Wanted to try another tail servo today, and all of the sudden in setting menu the servo was only moving in one direction from neutral, the radio input was correct going from -100 to +100. I tried the old servo, same problem ! Did not change anything in between. Also in normal mode, there was no gyro function at all. I believed the unit was faulty and sent mail to the dealer as the unit is still under warranty. He recommended me to ask in this forum. At the same time I took a lunch break, and when I tried again, everything worked fine with both ruder servos. This has never happened before with vbar, should the unit be investigated or is everything fine again ?

Wiring for Blue Mini VBar + ICE 100 + CC BEC Pro? (1 reply)

I'm considering converting my flybarred 550 electric to FBL with a new blue Mini VBar. I'm currently using a CC ICE 100 and a CC BEC Pro for the electronics (i.e. NOT using the BEC circuit from the ESC). The CC BEC Pro has two servo-type output plugs for power, and I would like to use both of them.

Reading the Mini VBar 5.0 manual, in a Spektrum satellites configuration, RX-C looks like the only port available for the separate BEC. RX-B would be occupied by the ESC (not supplying power).

My question is this: would it be safe to couple/join the black/ground wires from the ESC and the 2nd BEC plug in to RX-B? (I.e. RX-B would have the signal wire from the ESC, the +/red wire from the 2nd BEC plug, and the -/black wire from BOTH the ESC and the 2nd BEC plug). In other words, is it safe to tie the two floating grounds together?

(FWIW, I've sent Castle Creations the same email. I'm hoping to get the same answer from both parties).

Also when i give the heli some rudder input its moving really slow and don't even move the full length. When i am in setup mode and wanne set the end points its reacting normal. I already tried every servo type without any result. What am i doing wrong?

Also the parameters of the pitch etc are very low (They advice 80-100 but i need to use 50 ).
Please apologize if this question doesn’t belong here……………
I am going to use a 5 blade main head on a logo 600 se with vstabi
Has anybody any idea which rotor speed will be optimal for normal scale flying?
I ask this because I am not sure to use the piro 700 450 U/min/V or 520 U/min/V?
I am going to use 10 cells
Length of blades?
